A serene response for a seaside abode.

Responsible and sympathetic foreshore development is the hallmark of a project that emphasised the natural features of this appealing location

Architecture

The built form at Orabel is distinguished by a striking floating roof, derived from the notional cut made to the natural ground plane and reminiscent of a breaking wave. Supporting columns are structural and expressed in a way as to represent tree trunks in a natural landscape.

The final design comprised four separate buildings that provided for permeability and created beautiful vistas that connected the foreshore at the front to the creek corridor at the rear. Materials for the building were selected from a palette of coastal colour, enhancing the fit of the building into its natural surrounds.

Interior

The most appealing feature of Orabel was its adjacency to the Port Phillip Bay foreshore. Floor plans were designed take advantage of the orientation towards the splendid views and planned so that the outlook through the apartments and out to the bushland was not compromised by services or functional rooms such as kitchens.

Our concept for Orabel utilised a neutral colour palette and natural timber and joinery, with the interior design pared back and deliberately under-styled to allow residents the chance to put their own stamp on their new home.

Marketing

Mother Nature was the inspiration for a branding toolkit that sought to emphasise the significant environmental features of the site, which is nestled between the delightful Port Philip foreshore and the peaceful Kananook Creek.

Orabel — meaning beautiful seacoast — was our creative brand name solution, and we combined it with a simple descriptor (Water front) to help prospective purchases make an instant connection to the dwelling’s location.

W = WATER

F = FRONT

REPRESENTATION OF
OCEAN AND SAND

Orabel meaning: Beautiful seacoast

The logo was designed to evoke a soothing tranquility. An understated sans-serif font and gentle, flowing lines that represent the ocean and sandy landscapes, completed a sophisticated and calming impression.
